Jessenland Township
Just north of Henderson, Minnesota, Jessenland Township embraces all of township 113, range 26 west, excepting a fraction cut off by the Minnesota river. The surface is quite irregular. High bluffs along the river, intersected by deep ravines. Back from the bluffs are found numerous marshes, and in the northwestern portion is Silver Lake, a large body of water well stocked with fish. High Island Creek runs through the township a little below the center, emptying into the Minnesota river. Originally the surface was covered with a thick growth of heavy timber, a large portion of which has been cut for wood and to make room for agricultural pursuits. Planning and Zoning in Jessenland
Jessenland Township implemented its own Planning and Zoning in February 2001. Residents wanted the Township to be in control of their
growth and not be dependent on the county to make decisions for them.
Why have Planning and Zoning
Jessenland Township realizes that urban sprawl is real. Being so close to the suburbs of the Twin Cities it is important to have an
intelligent plan for growth. Preserving the rural quality of Jessenland is what residents of the township have clearly chosen as their
goal in planning and zoning.
